Es un economista formado en las universidades de Harvard y Cambridge. Trabajó como inversor financiero durante 25 años y ha sido asesor del Banco Mundial y director general de Fischer Francis Trees and Watts. Actualmente ejerce de consultor para numerosos fondos de inversión, entre los que se incluyen el Rock Creek Group y el Rohatyn Group. Es también director de la Aspen Insurance Co. y está en el consejo de administración de la Brookings Institution.

Sarah Zaman Pulitzer Prize for this year's best book of history went to Liaquat Ahamed for Lords of Finance. In his first book, Ahamed takes a look at the personalities and decisions of 4 bankers that controlled the world's economy. These bankers were the head of the central banks of America, England, France and Germany. An investment banker by profession, Liaquat Ahamed say that the lead up to the Great Depression and well as the recent economic crisis was eerily similar and that bankers and banking have to go back to fundamental principles and work in the consumers' interest if they want to be profitable and respectable again. Liaquat Ahamed is of Indian origin and comes from Kenya where his family settled nearly a century ago. He is a graduate of Oxford and Harvard universities. This package is based on his views about choosing Great Depression as the topic for his book, the experience of writing and the lessons learned from the Great Depression and how they can be applied today.
